VoxTori ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use VoxTori, a macOS application that provides real-time speech recognition and translation services.

Our Privacy Commitment

VoxTori is designed with privacy as a core principle.

We believe your conversations and translations should remain private and secure. This policy explains exactly how we handle your data.

Data Processing Overview

On-Device Processing (Default Mode)

By default, VoxTori processes all audio, speech recognition, and translation entirely on your Mac. When operating in this mode:

• No data leaves your device for speech recognition or translation

• All processing happens locally using Apple's on-device speech recognition and translation capabilities

• Your audio and transcripts never reach our servers or any third-party servers

• This mode requires downloaded language packs (available through System Settings)

Enhanced Mode (Optional)

VoxTori offers an optional "Enhanced Mode" feature that allows cloud-based speech recognition for languages that don't have on-device models available.

This feature is disabled by default and must be explicitly enabled by you in the app settings.

When Enhanced Mode is enabled:

• Audio may be sent to Apple's servers (not VoxTori servers) for speech recognition

• This only applies to speech recognition, not translation

• Translation always remains on-device, even when Enhanced Mode is enabled

• You will see a notification indicating "Using Enhanced Mode" when cloud processing is active

• You can disable Enhanced Mode at any time to return to fully local processing

Important: VoxTori does not operate its own servers for speech recognition or translation. When Enhanced Mode is used, data is sent only to Apple's services, which are subject to Apple's privacy policies.

Information We Collect

Information Stored Locally on Your Device

VoxTori stores the following information locally on your Mac:

1. Transcript History

   • Your transcribed text and translations

   • Timestamps, language pairs, and audio source information

   • Retention: Configurable (default: 15 days, maximum: 30 days)

   • Free tier limit: Up to 5 transcripts and 30 minutes of daily usage; Pro tier: Unlimited

2. Application Preferences

   • Language selections, audio source preferences

   • Display settings (font size, colors, window transparency)

   • Feature toggles (Enhanced Mode, auto-punctuation, etc.)

   • Stored in standard macOS system storage

3. Usage Statistics (Local Only)

   • Total audio processing time (for "Time Saved" calculation)

   • Total word count from transcripts

   • Daily usage tracking for free tier quota management

   • Stored in standard macOS system storage

   • Purpose: These statistics help you understand your usage and are never transmitted externally

4. Telemetry Logs (Local Only)

   • Minimal logs for troubleshooting language asset downloads

   • Stored in your local Application Support folder

   • Contents: Language download start/complete/failed events only

   • Note: These logs are stored locally and are never automatically transmitted to us or any third party

   • No personal conversation content, transcripts, or usage patterns are logged

Information We Do NOT Collect

VoxTori does not collect, store, or transmit:

• Your audio recordings (audio is processed in real-time and not saved)

• Your personal information (name, email, address, etc.)

• Your contacts or other personal data

• Location information

• Device identifiers for tracking purposes

• Analytics data sent to third-party services

• Any data to VoxTori's own servers (we don't operate any)

How We Use Your Information

Local Data Usage

Information stored locally on your device is used solely to:

• Provide the transcription and translation features

• Maintain your transcript history for your reference

• Remember your preferences and settings

• Calculate usage statistics for quota management (free tier)

• Improve app performance and fix bugs (via local telemetry logs)

Data Sharing and Disclosure

VoxTori does not share your data with any third parties, except:

1. Apple Services (when Enhanced Mode is enabled)

   • Audio data may be sent to Apple's speech recognition servers

   • This is subject to Apple's privacy policies and terms

   • You can disable this by turning off Enhanced Mode

2. Apple App Store (for subscription verification)

   • VoxTori uses Apple's App Store for subscription management

   • Standard App Store receipt verification confirms your subscription status

   • No personal data beyond standard App Store transaction records is involved

   • This is subject to Apple's App Store privacy policies

3. Legal Requirements

   • We may disclose information if required by law or legal process

   • We may disclose information to protect our rights or the safety of users

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical measures to protect your data:

• All local data is stored using macOS standard security features

• Transcript history is stored in your user's Application Support directory with standard file permissions

• No data is transmitted over unencrypted connections

• When Enhanced Mode is used, data transmission to Apple uses encrypted connections

Your Rights and Choices

You have full control over your data:

1. Delete Transcript History

   • You can delete individual transcripts or clear all history at any time

   • History is automatically purged based on your retention settings

2. Disable Enhanced Mode

   • Turn off Enhanced Mode in settings to ensure 100% local processing

   • Note: Some languages may not be available without Enhanced Mode

3. Manage Language Packs

   • Download or remove language packs through System Settings

   • On-device languages work without any cloud processing

4. Delete All Local Data

   • Uninstalling the app removes all stored data

5. Access Your Data

   • All your data is stored locally and accessible through the app

   • Transcript history can be viewed, copied, or exported from within the app

Permissions Required

VoxTori requires the following macOS permissions to function:

1. Microphone Access

   • Required to capture audio for speech recognition

   • Used only for real-time processing; audio is not recorded or saved

   • You can revoke this permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone

2. Speech Recognition Permission

   • Required to use speech recognition on your Mac

   • You can revoke this permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Speech Recognition

3. Screen Recording Permission (Optional)

   • Required only if you want to capture audio from other applications

   • Not required for microphone-only use

   • You can revoke this permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording

4. Accessibility Permission (Optional)

   • Required for global keyboard shortcuts (hotkeys) that work system-wide

   • Enables starting/stopping transcription from any application

   • You can revoke this permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility

Children's Privacy

VoxTori is not intended for children under the age of 4. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us immediately.

International Users

VoxTori is designed to work entirely on your device. When Enhanced Mode is enabled, data may be processed by Apple's servers, which may be located outside your country of residence. This is subject to Apple's privacy practices and applicable data protection laws.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by:

• Posting the new Privacy Policy in the app

• Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy

• Providing notice through the app when significant changes are made

Your continued use of VoxTori after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Data Retention

• Transcript History: Retained according to your settings (default: 15 days, configurable up to 30 days)

• Preferences and Settings: Retained until you change or delete them

• Usage Statistics: Retained locally for the lifetime of the app installation

• Telemetry Logs: Stored locally; you can delete them manually at any time

When you uninstall VoxTori, all local data is removed from your device.
